Troy Universitya comprehensive senior public university in Alabama, seeks a fundraising professional with proven experience in leading and inspiring others to financially support the mission and future of the University to serve as Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement. Reporting to the Chancellor, this senior officer oversees all the fundraising initiatives, campaigns, and activities of the Troy University Foundation and advances the image and funding resources for the University enabling growth regionally, nationally, and internationally. The expected start date is January 1, 2023.

Founded in 1887 within the Alabama State University System, Troy University is the flagship university of the Troy University System (TROY), which is comprised of a network of four campuses across Alabama; numerous academic centers in Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas, and Virginia, and six international sites. Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr. has served as Chancellor of Troy University since September 1, 1989. Chancellor Hawkins has overseen an era of tremendous change and growth at Troy. He led the merger of the worldwide Troy State University System into the unified Troy University, an initiative called “One Great University.” During his administration, more than $350 million has been invested in capital improvements, including new academic buildings on all four of Troy’s Alabama campuses.

Troy University provides a variety of educational programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels for a diverse student body in traditional, nontraditional, and emerging electronic formats. More than 170 majors and minors for undergraduate studies and 120 degree options for graduate studies are offered. The University has a comprehensive online learning environment and has 109 degree programs that are completely online, ranging from a BS degree in Cyber ​​Security to an Ed.S. degree in Counseling, to a Ph.D. in Sports Management. Online courses are taught in nine-week terms, providing students with both convenience and flexibility in scheduling their studies.

The Opportunity

Reporting directly to the Chancellor, the Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement provides executive leadership and direction for all aspects of fundraising, governmental relations, and community relations, as well as coordination of the Foundation Board activities. Additionally, this position will collaborate in University-wide efforts in brand and messaging strategy, social media, and website design/usage. The senior administrator ensures elements of the integrated strategic plan are achieved in coordination with other senior leadership.

The Senior Vice Chancellor is a leader with proven experience in leading and inspiring others within an ever-changing landscape that grows the University while effectively instilling TROY brand loyalty using strategic messaging skills with emerging technologies. This administrator engages the support of alumni and friends of the University and builds confidence in key governmental stakeholders of the University’s overall mission and outreach. Additionally, the Senior Vice Chancellor guides efforts in establishing and maintaining unique partnerships benefiting the communities served and the university-at-large.

Responsibilities

• Collaborates in university-wide efforts in brand and messaging strategy, social media, and website design/usage.

• Generates external funding support for the University via private fundraising and governmental appropriations.

• Directs governmental relations in Alabama and Washington, DC

• Facilitates enrollment recruitment and digital engagement.

• Develops strong community relations.

• Builds collaborative arrangements within the University.

• Creates and supports accountable budgeting within the division and for University goals.

Required Qualifications

• A master’s degree in business, communications, or related field; or equivalent experience in area of ​​responsibility, with an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited institution preferred

• Minimum of five years of executive and professional administrative job-related experience

• Track record of proven senior-level leadership in leading a diverse organization

• Proven record in marketing, use of emerging digital technologies, development and execution of communication campaigns, and student enrollment analysis

• Demonstrated skills in fundraising with ability to develop fundraising strategies and lead a capital campaign

• Effective communication abilities for internal and external audiences

Troy University Foundation

Established in 1968, the Foundation assists the University in building its endowment through a coordinated donor program and sound investment policy. The Foundation promotes, supports, and carries out broader educational opportunities and provides services to the faculty, students, and alumni of Troy University.

The Foundation focuses on providing financial support from private sources as an essential supplement to legislative funds, students’ fees, and federal grants. The organization is committed to an active program to attract contributions from foundations, corporations, and individuals. More than 600 Troy students received Foundation scholarships in FY2021-22.

An elected Board of Directors sets the governing policies for the Foundation. Standing committees of the Board include the Stewardship Committee, Nominating Committee, and Advancement Committee.

Working closely with the Chancellor, the Senior Vice Chancellor for Advancement coordinates all of the University’s fundraising, including campaigns and solicitations of the Foundation.

Troy University’s historic campus is located in the vibrant city of Troy, just south of Montgomery, the state’s capitol. With a beautiful and vibrant downtown square filled with restaurants, antique shops, and local museums, Troy is known for offering big-city selection and style along with small-town courtesy and attention.

Along with its quaint neighborhoods and historic homes, Troy has townhouses and apartment living, which is ideally suited for individuals, families with children, or retirees. The city has nationally recognized Parks and Recreation programs and facilities. The 97-bed Troy Regional Medical Center serves residents of a six-county area. This facility provides emergency and acute care, orthopedics/sports medicine, pain management, surgical services, pathology, diagnostic imaging, medical detox unit, senior behavioral care unit, cancer infusion center, diabetes management center, sleep disorder studies center and an in-hospital rehabilitation service as well as an extensive range of out-patient services, both diagnostic and for treatment.
