Employability Clerical Assistant at University of Chester

The post holder will sit within the Directorate of Access, Skills and Apprenticeships (DASA) – Careers and Employability.

The Directorate of Access, Skills and Apprenticeships (DASA) comprises of Careers and Employability, Access and Participation, Outreach, Academic Skills and Apprenticeships. One of their key aims is to greatly strengthen the University’s offer in respect of student support and development, an area of ​​activity that continues to be a key part of the institution’s forward strategy.

Careers and Employability is a large team spread over several sites – Chester, Warrington and Shrewsbury, but with a presence on all University of Chester sites. The Employer Engagement Team sits within the centralized service, primarily at the Exton Park site, with the flexibility to work from other sites as and when required to do so.

The team is responsible for delivering a number of key initiatives on behalf of Careers and Employability and provide a variety of employability-enhancing experiences through the curriculum, employer contact, tailored group sessions and via individual advice and guidance. The Employer Engagement Team provides opportunities for employers to engage with and to recruit our students and graduates, as well as assisting them to promote their organization to raise their profile among our student and graduate community. Key initiatives which the Employer Engagement Team are responsible for include:

Job Purpose

As well as the above, the post holder will also assist the team with University events such as The Chester Difference Award Celebration Evening, Careers Open Days, Induction and Graduation, some of which take place at evenings or weekends. The post holder will be responsible for making independent decisions on a daily basis on queries directed to the service, both in person and through electronic channels; and work with both colleagues and stakeholders, ensuring excellent customer service is provided to all those who visit the department be they internal or external stakeholders. All service and inquires answered as part of this role can be done via in person and email communication.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Current areas of work include:

Vacancy Advertising:

  • Answering electronic and telephone inquiries from employers who are interested in advertising vacancies with us and advising them about how to do so with reference to appropriate policies and procedures.
  • Approving vacancies from employers on CareerHub, ensuring that they meet our Vacancy Advertising Policy and rejecting them if they do not.
  • Answering any employer related queries that come into the employer’s inbox as appropriate.
  • Using Microsoft Excel to produce vacancy lists for the Career Consultant Team as well as the wider Careers and Employability Team.
  • Undertaking any other vacancy related duties as appropriate.
  • Identifying organizational contacts from whom to seek permission when advertising vacancies.

Data Inputting:

  • Liaising, as appropriate, with the Student Success Team regarding the inputting of HEAR data for Careers Workshops, Venture Program sessions and The Chester Difference Award participants.
