USF World is led by a VP and is comprised of units across Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota devoted to promoting ed abroad; supporting international students and scholars, the management of international partnerships, international travel risk and security services, management of the Peace Corps Prep and support for a dedicated recruiter, tracking and documenting international research collaborations and the global footprint of faculty, students and staff, collection of data related to international activities at the University, international alumni development and outreach, and the marketing and communication of USF World programs and initiatives. Comprising a total of over 70 staff and a budget of approximately $4.5 M, clients are USF faculty developing international academic experiences, curriculum, and research collaborations, administrators promoting the global priorities of USF, staff responsible for supporting international activities across campuses, colleges, and other units, current and prospective students coming to USF from other countries and US students seeking global experiences as well as university partners from abroad and foreign dignitaries. Community partners include local, state, national, and international leaders of government and public and private organizations, including other institutions of higher ed, military, business, and industry.


The Assistant Vice President for Strategic Initiatives, Outreach, and Advancement will assume a leadership role in the overall management, operations, and strategic positioning of USF World. The position reports to the Vice President, serves as a member of the USF World Leadership Team, and is responsible for the management of day-to-day operations that contribute to the operational effectiveness of marketing and communications campaigns, community outreach, global partnership management , and the ability of the unit to raise funds to support identified priorities. The position directly supervises the Outreach and Advancement unit within USF World. The Outreach and Advancement unit has significant University-wide external relations responsibilities including international partner and community relations, marketing and communications (to internal and external audiences), global alumni relations, and development. The position has broad authority to formulate, approve and implement policies for the division, including those that may have a university-wide impact and the position’s decisions and execution have significant impact on other departments within the division.


Designs and executes specific development projects and advancement activities, such as annual giving solicitations or donor recognition events, in collaboration with the USF Foundation, that are effective in generating funds for USF World priorities.

Directs outreach and engagement activities for USF World that advance the unit’s goals including the strategic and operational direction of USF World community relations including partners and stakeholders domestically and globally.

Responsible for the unit’s marketing and communications strategies and for strengthening the USF World brand and reputation across internal and external audiences.

Represents USF World in the community, among global partners, and on committees/workgroups as appropriate, engages in broader leadership activities across the unit, presents periodic reports to USF World as well as to internal and external stakeholders as necessary.

Directs and manages USF World annual signature events including event planning and execution.

Performs other duties as assigned.



Requires a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited institution and a minimum of 10 years of related exempt level experience, including seven years of managerial experience, preferably in large complex institutions or organizations. Requires experience in leading multiple teams, projects, programs, and/or functions.


Demonstrated ability to manage fundraising activities and to engage potential and current donors. Excellent communication skills and leadership experience managing marketing and communications functions. Experience living and/or working outside the United States.
