De Montfort University is looking to appoint a Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Fashion Communication and Styling within the School of Fashion and Textiles. With an ethos of responsible design, an emphasis on Decolonisation and a focus on employability, the School brings together Fashion Design, Textile Design, Fashion Buying, Fashion Management, and Fashion Communication & Styling along with the specialist disciplines of Contour Fashion and Footwear Design. Housed in a dedicated Art & Design building the School incorporates undergraduate and postgraduate studies with excellence in teaching, research and design consultancy.


We require a creative and informed individual who is an experienced educator to teach visual literacy, fashion image, creative direction and promotional strategy on the BA(Hons) Fashion Communication and Styling programme. This is an opportunity to join a highly recognized and successful school. The candidate will possess knowledge of the practice with specific skills and industry experience in one or more of the following: fashion image making, styling, art direction, digital media, communication strategies, and fashion publication.

You will be expected to make a substantial contribution to the academic and reputational development of the fashion subject area and to engage in scholarly research.

The role is on a permanent basis, part time (14.8 hours per week).

Ideal Candidate

With a degree and appropriate industry experience, you will have an excellent understanding of the subject area, you will be a creative and inspirational fashion communicator with a thorough knowledge of key practical, technical and professional aspects of the discipline. You will have a broad understanding of current social, ethical and environmental issues affecting the global fashion sector today.

You will have excellent communication skills to engage students and develop their success throughout their studies and onwards as they move into industry and/or self-employment.

Experience of teaching at undergraduate level is essential.
