Research Associate at Imperial College London

Job Summary

Applications are invited for the post of Research Associate at the National Heart and Lung Institute within Imperial College’s Faculty of Medicine. You will be working in the group led by Dr. Tristan Rodriguez on a project that involves studying in pluripotent stem cells the pathways and mechanism that regulate cell competition. Over the last few years cell competition has emerged as an important quality control that regulates cell fitness during development and in the adult (reviewed in Nichols, Lima and Rodriguez, Cell Stem Cell 2022). Recent work by the Rodriguez lab has identified that relative mitochondrial activity is a key determinant of cell fitness during development (Lima et al., Nature Metabolism. 2021). However, despite this progress, there is still little knowledge regarding the mechanism by which fitter cells outcompete less-fit ones or the pathways involved in this competition. The project will involve using a variety of cell biology and molecular approaches, combining metabolic, super-resolution imaging and functional analyzes in human and mouse pluripotent stem cells to address these questions.
