Position Summary:

Reporting to the Vice Provost, the Director, Academic Initiatives is an independent, exceptionally organized and ambitious academic leader responsible for 1.) Leading, managing and implementing university-wide academic projects sponsored by the Vice Provost and 2.) Providing strategic leadership, operational , analytical, and research support to the Vice Provost for maintaining ongoing university-wide institutional accreditation. This position will play a pivotal leadership role as a member of the Vice Provost’s team and serving as the trusted ‘right hand’ to the Vice Provost across all areas of the Vice Provost’s portfolio, including doctoral affairs, non-credit offerings, academic program review & assessment, accreditation, curriculum management, clinical deans, and other special projects. The Director will work collaboratively and closely with the Vice Provost to manage, track, and assess the successful implementation of a range of projects to further the academic mission of NYU and the strategic goals of the Office of the Provost. The Director will serve as the Vice Provost’s designate with a range of leaders, stakeholders, schools and units as assigned. The Director will manage sensitive and confidential information for the Vice Provost, leading communication and follow-through with relevant stakeholders, including Deans, Academic Associate Deans, the Office of Academic Program Review & Assessment (OAPRA), IT, Enrollment Management, and others. The position will manage graduate research analysts, consultants, and temporary workers hired to support the various projects sponsored by the Vice Provost.

Qualifications:

Required Education:
Master’s Degree in fields related to business, management, policy, higher education, social sciences or others with appropriate experience and skills.

Preferred Education:
Doctoral Degree in fields related to business, management, policy, higher education, social sciences or others with appropriate experience and skills.

Required Experience:
7+ years experience with significant responsibility and accountability simultaneously managing multiple complex and time sensitive projects within a large organization involving diverse stakeholders, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal, organization, planning, collaboration, and communication skills, with passion for precision. Demonstrated subject expert in institutional accreditation. Strong client relations, problem-solving and analytical skills. Project management, event planning and budget management ability. Advanced data, research and analytical capabilities. Excellent skills in translating complicated policy jargon into accessible, actionable items tailored to the audience. Ability to independently juggle challenging portfolio with multiple projects, prioritizing and meeting deadlines. Excellent leadership, problem solving, and analytical skills. Excellent technological and analytical skills, including an advanced knowledge of Excel, Google Applications, database management, data visualizations, reporting, and information management. Statistical orientation with experience using R, Python, Tableau, SPSS, Stata (or other statistical packages). Flexibility in work style, demonstrated ability to adapt successfully to changing work environment and needs. Strong detail-orientation, independence, and follow-through. Ability to prioritize and execute multiple tasks simultaneously, while meeting deadlines, and maintaining high-quality work product. Exemplary relationship building skills with both internal and external constituents and ability to interface with senior leadership and individuals at all levels. Desire and ability to practice inclusive and thoughtful leadership, with commitment to understand and respect diverse stakeholder perspectives. Dedication to adapt presentation formats, styles, and communications to diverse audience and stakeholder needs. Commitment to continue to expand knowledge, skills and awareness to foster growth and success in the role and as a member of the team.
