The Highlights
Provides overall support for the operation of the President’s office. Serves as a senior advisor to the President and reports directly to the President on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the President’s office and its priorities. Coordinates the execution of university-wide projects undertaken by the President as well as handling questions, concerns, issues and requests on the President’s behalf.

Is This You?

  • Helps to facilitate strategic management processes and the management of specific strategic initiatives that are critical to meeting the university’s strategic planning goals. Responsible for interacting with colleagues across the university to ensure institutional alignment and synergy with the strategic plan.

  • Responsible for the organization of data and flow of critical information of the University. This includes coordinating activities around data and strategic analytics, data usage and dissemination for the office, and maintaining dashboards for senior management and the Board of Trustees.

  • Working in conjunction with Community & Government Relations, responsible for community, state and federal government engagement strategies as they relate to the main goals of the Presidents office.

  • Interacts with members at all levels of the university community for the purpose of defining, advancing and assessing the work of the Office of the President to ensure its continued effectiveness.

  • Serves as the liaison to the Board of Trustees on key executive matters as delegated by the President. Works in collaboration with administrative liaisons to the board.

  • Exercises considerable judgment in his/her capacity with the responsibility for analyzing policy issues, identifying university-wide impacts and coordinating responses to the President on strategies and alternatives for dealing with the issues.

  • Prepares and/or contributes to the preparation of responses, reports, proposals, briefings, and presentations on institutional and strategic issues.

  • Assists the President with correspondence dealing with issues and subject matter that requires considerable sensitivity, discretion, judgment or negotiation.

  • Builds and nurtures relationships to serve as a resource for the President and a point of contact for key constituents to resolve complex issues and help advance strategic priorities.

  • Participates in key meetings with faculty, staff, and administrators, and others as needed. Accurately represents the President’s position in internal meetings and discussions to help drive understanding and advance decision-making.

  • If necessary, acts as an intermediary for the senior staff in raising critical issues and obtaining responses, guidance and decisions from the President.

  • At the direction of the President, assists in all aspects of university administration.

  • Handles and directs special projects and other duties as assigned by the President.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Your education

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience working in complex organizational environments, preferably higher education.

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience influencing and working closely with executive level leaders.

  • Experience balancing strategic leadership with detailed involvement in support of accountabilities.

  • Exceptional written, presentation and verbal communication skills that can be applied across levels.

  • Excellent demonstrated judgment and diplomacy in working with diverse groups to address complex issues.

  • Highly regarded people management skills.

  • Proven track record of developing effective partnerships across disparate groups to organize and facilitate decisions and ensure implementation.

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Position will have at least three direct reports.

Other Skills & Abilities Required

  • Successful candidate will have experience making independent judgments; ability to coordinate office detail in conjunction with policy; Proven experience handling highly confidential and sensitive materials and situations. Ability to master a wide range of relationships, tasks, and perspectives required; Increasing responsibility working with higher education executives at an academic institution is preferred. Must have exceptional communication, organizational and analytical skills; demonstrate strong problem-solving skills; be competent in a variety of Windows-based computer programs including MS Word and Excel. Must be able to work independently, prioritize work, and independently manage multiple and competing priorities while meeting deadlines.
