Position Description

West Virginia State University is seeking an Assistant Vice President for University Advancement. This is a full-time, at-will, exempt, benefits-eligible position. The Assistant Vice President will serve as part of an integrated Advancement team dedicated to supporting West Virginia State University’s mission by engaging alumni, friends, and organizations in active support of the University.

The Assistant Vice President will provide leadership for the University’s major gifts and planned giving programs and will manage a personal portfolio of 75 to 100 prospective donors for the cultivation and solicitation of major gifts and grants. The Assistant Vice President will also serve as Vice President of the WVSU Foundation and as Campaign Director for the University’s upcoming capital campaign.

The Assistant Vice President reports to the Vice President for University Advancement and is a member of the University Advancement Office. This position requires travel within the local Kanawha Valley area, the state of West Virginia, and nationally, as well as attendance at occasional evening and weekend activities. Responsibilities

· Work closely with the Vice President for University Advancement and the West Virginia State University Foundation Board of Directors to develop fundraising goals and strategies to support the University’s strategic goals, including planning for the University’s next Capital Campaign.

  • Lead the Moves Management Team, providing strategic leadership and professional development for team members and monitoring their progress with donor cultivation and solicitation.
  • Manage a portfolio of approximately 75 to 100 deferred and outright gift donors with the goal of securing significant gifts of $50,000 to $1 million and above.
  • Maintain current, accurate Prospect Management reports in The Raiser’s Edge, including strategic action reports, prospect pipeline, prospect status, and prospect list.
  • Serve as Campaign Director for the University’s next Capital Campaign.
  • Support the work of WVSU Foundation Board members, including training and development, committee work and the cultivation and solicitation activities of Board members and other volunteers.
  • Provide day-to-day management and supervise staff in the Office of University Advancement.
  • Nurture relationships with alumni, friends, and community and corporate partners, and encourage their active engagement with and support of West Virginia State University.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor’s degree

· Three years or more of progressive fundraising and development experience

· Record of successfully raising major gifts of $50,000 and above

Excellent communication skills

· Proven ability to work independently and simultaneously as part of a team

· A valid driver’s license and commitment to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.

· Employment contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.

· Experience working with leadership volunteers

· Experience working in higher education

· Experience with a capital campaign

· Supervisory and management experience

· Ability to build relationships

· Evidence of community engagement and service

· Experience working with and serving diverse populations.

Salary Statement

Salary will be commensurate with experience.
