St. Mary’s College of Maryland, the National Public Honors College, invites nominations and applications for a collaborative and inspirational leader to serve as its next vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty.

St. Mary’s College of Maryland was founded in 1840 as a living monument to the place it marks: the 17th-century capital of Maryland. The spectacular waterfront campus is in the heart of the Chesapeake Bay region, 75 miles southeast of Washington, DC and 97 miles south of Baltimore.
St. Mary’s College is accredited by the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools and is a member of the Council of Public Liberal Arts Colleges (COPLAC). SMCM offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science and Master of Arts in Teaching degrees in 60 academic programs. Its 119 full-time faculty members serve approximately 1,500 students.
The vice president for academic affairs and dean of faculty (VPAA) serves as the chief academic officer for the College, overseeing all academic programs and services, faculty development, the library, writing center, Center for the Study of Democracy, Center for Inclusive Teaching and Learning, International Education and the Boyden Gallery. The new VPAA will join St. Mary’s College during an exciting time in which the academic affairs organization is undergoing a reorganization that will allow the new VPAA to serve at the strategic level while overseeing a small team charged with operational oversight.
The VPAA will partner with the president, faculty and other senior leaders to help envision and build St. Mary’s College’s future, ensuring that the College continues to achieve its ambitious goals. The VPAA will advance a model of collaborative leadership and communication, partnering with senior leadership to build relationships across the College that will expand educational opportunities for students. The new VPAA will lead ongoing change at the College while establishing, leading and stewarding the vision and strategic direction of the academic program, building on the College’s ongoing efforts to diversify the faculty, staff and student body while being equally vigilant in modeling and ensuring the College’s commitment to inclusion and equity.
St. Mary’s College of Maryland’s new VPAA will be an experienced, skilled leader and manager who is committed to collaborative relationships and a team-based approach to problem solving and execution.
