Reporting to the Vice President for College Relations, the Assistant VP for College Relations (AVP) oversees a wide array of executive and project support for the Office of College Relations (OCR), advancing and managing the daily and long-term work of the office. to promote strategic priorities in support of the college’s mission. As the AVP, you will serve as a senior staff member in OCR, as a primary contact for the Vice President on all matters involving the office, and as a generalist, performing complex duties on behalf of the Vice President.

As a lead in OCR for strategy and planning, you will work closely with departmental and college leaders to advance priorities and ensure that critical projects, communications, meetings, activities, and events are designed and executed in alignment with and to advance divisional and college goals. . As a fundraiser, you will manage relationships with key alumni donors and volunteers.

You will work collaboratively with the leaders of departments within the Office of College Relations and other divisional leaders on fundraising campaign planning, large-scale alumni engagement initiatives, major decision-making, and the prioritization of initiatives amidst competing demands. It is essential that you work with a cross-functional, cross-departmental, and cross-divisional mindset and draw from a deep knowledge of higher education administration, development, communications, and relevant policies and issues to succeed in this role.

Responsibilities

OCR Strategy, Planning and Operational Leadership (40%)

  • Supports planning for OCR and its departments in alignment with the college’s strategic plan and serves in an internal project management consulting role for the division. Helps the Vice President consider ways that the division can be organized best in service to that planning.
  • Manages and tracks progress on fundraising performance and OCR’s contributions to specific college-wide priority initiatives detailed in the college’s strategic plan, including Sustainability and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility. Organizes and communicates internally about the division’s progress towards its goals.
  • Develops, implements, and evaluates initiatives, projects, and priorities in close partnership with the Vice President, departmental leaders, senior administrators, and alumni leaders. Provides flexible coverage to address the highest priorities as they emerge and to manage mid-term and long-term activities.
  • Supervises Communications positions and facilitates communication among key internal and external stakeholders by planning and executing a thoughtful, strategic, comprehensive, and regular communication strategy for OCR.
  • Provides strategic leadership, identifies opportunities for continuous improvement and creates efficient workflows and implements clear channels of communication and decision-making within OCR.

Fundraising, Campaign Planning & Management Leadership (40%)

  • Works with Vice President and Associate Vice President for Development to lead pre-campaign readiness initiatives, including internal and external analyses, fundraising strategy, key deliverables, and volunteer leadership models for initiative-based campaign planning and implementation.
  • Supports Associate Vice President for Development in translating the college’s strategic plan and priorities into gift purposes and initiative-based campaigns. Partners with Assistant Vice President for Alumni Engagement to develop participation-based campaigns and alumni and parent engagement strategies in support of initiative-based fundraising.
  • Manages a portfolio of key prospects and volunteers. Helps manage relationships with principal prospects and key volunteers as well as prioritize the time and attention of the President and Vice President in meeting and communicating with these constituents.
  • Identifies and develops strategies and opportunities for the deployment of senior staff members and other college leaders to achieve fundraising objectives.

Communications Leadership (20%)

  • Serves as OCR’s primary liaison with the Office of Communications and other primary campus partners in communicating the college’s mission, vision, and values ​​(eg, Admission & Student Financial Services).
  • Partners with Communications, Events, and Donor Relations teams to create compelling, easy-to-understand fundraising collateral for staff members to use with key volunteers and prospective donors and to provide strategic input for signature fundraising events and stewardship communications. Prepares presentations, talking points, donor and volunteer communications, and gift proposals with and for the Vice President and other colleagues.
  • Provides customized reports, briefing materials, memos and correspondence, and metrics reports for key internal and external audiences.
  • Participates in urgent/crisis communication development with OCR and Communications leaders.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience within a complex higher education setting with a majority of that time in fundraising, including management of both projects and people.
  • Strategic and creative thinker who welcomes and is proficient at handling change.
  • Track record of displaying integrity, reasoned judgment, humility, adaptability, and ability to make and explain challenging decisions.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize multiple diverse assignments/projects simultaneously, to set and implement strategy, and to establish and meet goals. Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and have the ability to work competently and efficiently in a multi-task environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to respond diplomatically to diverse constituencies, and to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion, sound judgment, and understanding. A true collaborative and collegial leadership style that values ​​consultation and communication.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, listening) and a demonstrated ability to confidently and effectively present in public platforms.
  • Ability to assess, curate, and translate data. Proven track record of identifying and addressing complex challenges.
